August • fighting the mental battle of feeling behind on everything I planned to do this year while telling myself I’m where I need to be. The people in my life are so loving and I think being together matters more in the long run than being “productive”. I want to get off the internet and be an artist. I want to be counterproductive in the best way. And I want to celebrate everything.

The band and I had a lot of fun revisiting this old tune off of the Hollow Bones EP at @drphillipsctr in May!

“Life or Death Affair” is one of those angsty coming-of-age songs I wrote when I was a teenager that I find myself coming back to again and again. The lyrics are some of the most poetically ambiguous I’ve ever written, and because of that, I find new meanings and perspectives in it every time I perform it.

A song in its simplest form is so powerful in that way. It changes through the eyes and ears of every listener it flows through, even when it remains the same. I guess really it’s everything around it that changes, which is transformative in itself.

Hollow Bones is 2 years old today 🕊️🪶🎶

The songs that made me, a time that changed me, everything came after her.

Even though 2 years later I feel like I’ve grown quite separated from the sound of this EP and the direction I thought I was going, I’m still deeply connected to these songs and I know my listeners are too.

But a new phase of myself has been creeping in slowly over these years and she has almost arrived. The people closest to me hear it and now I’m getting ready for the world to.
